April Ross
April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball players to have won medals at least twice in an Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll try to win her third gold medal alongside first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross is determined to earn more than her initial Olympic medal. And at the age of 39, this could be her last opportunity to accomplish this. However, she's convinced that top prizes are within reach. If we perform at our very highest or play well I feel like we can get that gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. Then I will also take some chance. Ross was born in 1982, and grew up within Costa Mesa California with her mother and sister, first began participating in sports at Newport Harbor High school. In addition to participating in a variety of sports, Ross was also a student at Newport Harbor High School. In her time as a college athlete she played indoor track and volleyball. She stood out however during this game. The college bio says that she played outside of the hitter, middle blocker and setter in her volleyball playing career at high school. In recognition of her work she was awarded the 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. In 2000, she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the Year for volleyball. Ross and Klineman formed their partnership in 2017, but Ross had been a beach-scene star for years before. In reality, she was a winner of several major championships while playing using two partners, among them an icon of volleyball. Ross teamed up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and was also Klineman's personal trainer. Kessy and Ross were an impressive force on the international circuit, winning the world championship in 2009 with each other. The duo would go into winning a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team that could take home the gold. Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. The team won bronze in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics 2016. Ross was a student athlete with the Trojans of USC prior to her pro career. She played in high school and in years prior to hitting the beach professionally. It was a successful performance for Ross during her time at the college level. Her freshman year in 2000 was when she won the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman's of the Year awards and be an All-American. The Trojans also reached the Final Four. Her heart was broken by a personal tragedy during her sophomore year. However, she managed to become an All-American once more. In her last two seasons as a player, she led the Trojans towards the summit by winning two three consecutive championships at the national level. As an individual, she established herself as an all-time legend by winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female collegiate volleyball player. Ross had been an international studies major at USC. Margie Ross did not get to see her daughter's climb to the beach volleyball spotlight. Ross lost her mother to breast cancer in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. She has kept her parents close to her heart. Margie has inspired her throughout her life, as well as on the beach.
